2017 15.1hh Shire x QH cross mare

Experience fox hunting in all three fields. She is an easy keeper & hunts barefoot with no issues. Josi is a lovely mover, incredibly sweet, laid-back, but forward thinking, very sound and light on her feet, making her wonderful in & out of the ring.

Josi is still a bit green under saddle and over fences, so a beginner rider is not recommended unless working with a trainer. She has primarily hunted 2nd & 3rd fields but is already incredibly brave to fences and shows tremendous potential to go 1st field consistently next season. In her first season, she hunted with multiple hunts, including Rappahannock Hunt (2nd + 3rd Fields), Warrenton Hunt (2nd field), Bull Run Hunt (2nd Field @ March Madness), and Old Dominion Hounds (1st + 2nd fields). She is the go-to horse for gates and mounting/dismounting in the hunt field, mannerly during reverse fields and passing staff riders, and other horses misbehaving/running up behind.

Josi rides out alone or in a group and is very sure-footed. She is great around cattle and the hounds, even being swarmed by them on multiple occasions. She has crossed bridges, thin passages over culverts, water, etc. and is very mannerly and sure-footed through trappy crossings. Josi originally came from a ranch in Montana where she was given time to grow and just be a horse, although ponied from other horses and well-handled. She was officially started under saddle in January 2022, correctly with a strong emphasis on groundwork and desensitizing with a slow introduction to hunting, starting with consistent trail riding and then in a slow 3rd field, and moving up as her training progressed.

Josi has no vices, she is up to date on vaccines, teeth floating, deworming, & farrier work. Josi is middle-low end of the pecking order in turnout and currently living out 24/7 with two other mares.

Other than in the hunt field, Josi has potential for low-level eventing, hunter paces/pair races, and is a nice enough mover for the hunter ring—all which will be explored this spring and summer until she has sold. Josi is looking for a wonderful home that will bring her along correctly and help her reach her full potential!

$30,000. Price will increase more training and experience.

Don’t miss out on this flashy draft cross that is ready to go in any direction!
