Location: Loudoun County, VA
15h solidly-built, dark bay mare, without markings-like the perfect little black dress. She is an elegant and refined type, yet still feels substantial under saddle. Her ideal rider is petite and well balanced.
Toots has hunted a full season with Loudoun Fairfax Hounds, mostly in second field. (Went out at least 30 times- weather this winter limited hunting in our area at times) She is happy to switch fields as needed, and is willing to lead a field, ride in the middle, or sweep at the rear. This season she has also been out with Snickersville Hounds, Bull Run Hunt, and to the De La Brooke Vixen meet- where she spent time in all three fields.
Toots stands patiently at checks, loves watching the hounds work, and is level-headed in large busy fields. She’s proven handy when needed for ponying, will leave the field alone or escort other riders back to the trailers when asked, and is very capable with all gates. Toots has a super gallop, she will stand to be mounted from the ground, and can hunt in her snaffle. She has been starting over fences ( most approximately 2’6”) in the hunt field, and shows clear promise to become a first field horse. She is a highly intelligent mare who is a super fun ride with a worker bee attitude. She will spend some time this summer learning to whip in, and would likely make a fabulous staff horse for a petite lady who enjoys a sports car vibe. She is best suited for an intermediate rider or above.
Toots has never offered to kick-horses or hounds-even when bumped or crowded. She has amazing feet and currently wears four steel shoes. She has proven surefooted and balanced on all terrain.
Toots can be seen at Virginia spring hunter paces and local hunt trail rides while we look for her ideal match.
Her owner is getting out of horses to pursue other goals and relocating.
